South Africa head coach Heyneke Meyer has made eight changes ahead of their World Cup group match against Samoa at Villa Park on Saturday and following on from their stunning loss to Japan in their tournament opener at Brighton last weekend.
A new scrum half-fly half combination in Fourie du Preez and Handre Pollard have been picked by Meyer, while No8 Duane Vermeulen has also been recalled for his first Test this year.
Hooker Bismarck du Plessis has also been dropped for Adriaan Strauss, as have full back Zane Kirchner, wing Lwazi Mvovo and center Jesse Kriel. Willie le Roux, JP Pietersen and Damian de Allende start instead.
Captain Jean de Villiers has been shifted to outside centre to make way for De Allende and Schalk Burger moves from No8 to flanker for Vermeulen’s inclusion.
Lock Eben Etzebeth also returns to the staring side.
