German GP: Qualifying conclusions

Rosberg deserves credit for bouncing back
It can't have been easy for Rosberg to see his one-time 43-point lead in the championship finally disappear in Hungary last week as Hamilton moved six points clear.
But he responded in superb fashion with his final flying lap in Germany to take pole. Rosberg had been outperforming his team-mate all weekend until Q1 and Q2, and appeared doomed after an electronics problem left him without a competitive time right until the very end.

Rosberg beats Hamilton to pole

Nico Rosberg has claimed pole position for his home race at the German GP
Mercedes chief Paddy Lowe described it as "a fantastic lap under the circumstances", and it was made all the more impressive considering Rosberg was carrying more fuel than Hamilton on those final laps in Q3.
While Rosberg himself was delighted with his performance in qualifying at his home Grand Prix. "It was a great feeling and a great lap," he said in the post-qualifying press conference. "I also had extra fuel to make sure I had another shot if a mistake or something happens. it was really satisfying."
Rosberg lost to Hamilton last week despite starting out on pole, but he's put himself in a great position to win again - and knows victory will guarantee a return to the top of the standings during the summer break.
Kvyat has another day to forget
A nightmare season for Daniil Kvyat somehow managed to slump to a new low in the final race before the summer break as he failed to even make it past Q1 in his Toro Rosso.
Demoted from Red Bull earlier in the season, the Russian was visibly distraught in his post-race interviews after qualifying in 19th, even going so far as to suggest there are some people who are enjoying watching him fail.
"I should be better than this and I know it's not my real self who is driving the car now," he told Sky Sports F1. "It's very painful to feel and see, of course some people are happy to see this for sure, but definitely not me."
While Sky Sports News HQ's Craig Slater believes there are concerns over Kvyat's wellbeing following a troubled 2016 so far.
"He was absolutely distraught," Slater said. "There are a few people in this paddock that are actually rather worried for him. He is still only 22 years of age and it's been a traumatic year for him with his demotion to Toro Rosso. But perhaps he can pull himself together over this summer."
It remains to be seen, then, whether Kvyat will still be in his seat once the season restarts in Spa at the end of August.
Hamilton continues to divide opinion like nobody else in F1
Was Hamilton lucky to avoid a reprimand - triggering an automatic ten-place grid penalty for his third such offence this year - for his unsafe release in Practice Three?
It all depends on your choice of precedence and perspective.
For the prosecution, there was the case of Kvyat, then driving for Red Bull, at last year's Belgian GP when he was handed a reprimand in a near-identical circumstances after the stewards ruled the Russian "did not pay sufficient attention".
For the case for leniency, Force India were - like Mercedes this weekend - merely fined in China when Sergio Perez was released into the path of an oncoming car in practice for this April's Chinese GP.
And the overall fact of the matter is that although a rule was in place in 2014 which guaranteed drivers would receive a ten-place penalty if released 'in an unsafe manner', that particular piece of legislation was removed amid a general belated acceptance penalising drivers rather than teams for such infringements was unfair.
The difficulty with any debate concerning Hamilton is that there never seems to be any middle ground - particularly between those who like him and those who, to put it politely, don't.
The most divisive driver in Formula 1? That might be the only thing everyone can agree on.
Merc have a new closest rival
At Silverstone, two Mercedes cars lined up ahead of a pair of Red Bulls with the highest Ferrari in fifth and the lowest tenth. In Hungary, the second Ferrari was down in 14th with the first still no higher than fifth.
And on this weekend, emphatically stressing the sport's new pecking order at the front of the grid, the Red Bulls once again locked out the second row for the third consecutive race behind the two Mercs with Ferrari consigned to the third row.
The oldest truth in sport is that the table never lies. But right now the Constructors' Championship is telling a big whooper by placing Ferrari above Red Bull - although, with just one point between them heading into Sunday's race, it's a porkie which may not be around for long.
Raikkonen outperforms Vettel
Sebastian Vettel had an 8-3 qualifying record in 2016 over Kimi Raikkonen heading into Hockenheim, but the Finn clawed one back on his Ferrari team-mate with an impressive performance on Saturday.
Raikkonen finished two-tenths ahead of the German, and will start in fifth as he looks to extend his gap in the standings over Vettel.
He currently sits fourth on 114 points, four clear of Vettel and one behind Red Bull's Daniel Ricciardo, who impressed as he beat his own team-mate Max Verstappen into third.
Ferrari may be locked in a battle with Red Bull to finish second in the Constructors' Championship, but the internal battle to see who will come out on top remains just as fascinating.

Real Madrid 3-2 Chelsea: Zidane's men ease past Blues despite Hazard double
The Belgium international's two goals could not rescue the result for Antonio Conte's men, who were three goals down at half-time in their ICC clash

Marcelo and Mariano powered Real Madrid to victory over Chelsea in Saturday's International Champions Cup tie, despite a late double from Eden Hazard.

The Brazilian left-back opened the scoring after 19 minutes with a fine blast from outside the box.

Seven minutes later, Marcelo was on target once again, bursting into the box, prising himself away from both Gary Cahill and Nemanja Matic, before rifling a low shot beyond Begovic at the near post.

Mariano made it 3-0 before half time with a thunderous shot from 25 yards into the top corner.

Eden Hazard grabbed a consolation goal for the Blues with a neat finish in the 80th minute, but the game was wrapped up by then, meaning Madrid had nothing to fear when he netted his second in the dying minutes,

Old soldier never dies, says Former President Olusegun Obasanjo

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo is undoubtedly the most frequent former Nigerian leader in the Villa since the inception of President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration. He has visited the President in his office in broad daylight with journalists seeing him and he has also visited Buhari many times in his official residence away from the prying eyes of reporters.

Lately, whenever he decides to visit during working hours, he has been very friendly with journalists. He will crack jokes with them and even dance as the case may be.

So as information filtered in on Monday that the former President would be visiting Buhari by 1pm, we knew we were in for another unique treatment by the Ota farmer. So at about 12.40pm, we moved from our Press Gallery operational base to the forecourt of the President’s office in order to lay ambush for the man.

At exactly 12.54pm, the Service Chief’s Gate was opened and a black Toyota Sports Utility Vehicle marked ABJ425 PY was seen approaching us. The cameramen quickly focused on the vehicle. As the SUV came to a stop, a policeman quickly opened the rear door and Obasanjo, decked in a blue agbada and cap to match, alighted. One of his daughters also alighted from the vehicle.

Obasanjo, a retired army general, looked at the way all the cameras were focused on him and said, “I like this guard of honour that you mounted.” He exchanged pleasantries with us briefly and entered the President’s office.

While he was still inside, the President of the world football governing body, FIFA, Gianni Infantino, who was on a two-day visit to the country also arrived to meet with the President. Infantino’s appointment with Buhari was scheduled for 2pm. So his arrival gave us the hope that Obasanjo would soon come out.

Not long after, the former President emerged from the President’s office and came directly towards where we were waiting for him. For us, that was an indication that he wanted to talk. There were instances that no matter the effort we put into it, he would just jump into his car and wave at us.

On why he visited the President, Obasanjo reeled out the countries he had visited lately and how he decided to come and intimate Buhari of the outcomes of his missions to those countries.  “I am visiting this time because I have some messages for the President. Not too long ago, I was in Liberia and The Gambia and I have messages these two countries would want me to deliver to the President. Also, only yesterday (Sunday), I came back from Seychelles Island where I attended this year’s Annual General meeting of Africa Export Development Bank. And there are aspects of the proceedings that I think I should update the President,” he said.

We felt we should utilise his visit to the maximum by getting good story, so we asked him to react to the allegations and counter allegations on alleged budget padding currently emerging from the House of Representatives viz-a-viz his earlier position that the National Assembly is filled with “rogues and robbers.” We got a winding answer that, simply put, meant he stood by his earlier comment.

Obasanjo obviously did not want to answer any further questions. He showed this by making a gesture that seemed he wanted to kiss the microphones. As we laughed, he turned his back and made to leave. I succeeded in getting his attention back when I told him that I suspected that he was enjoying his trips to different countries. He stopped, turned back and said, “Travelling is a good education. What you will learn about a country by visiting that country for two or three days, you won’t learn by reading books.”

Then, the former President rushed towards his car. As he sat down, just before his security detail could shut the door, I fired another salvo. This time, I asked Baba Iyabo the time that he would consider slowing down in his activities. He looked towards my direction again and asked that I repeat the question as if he did not hear me well. I suspected that it was a strategy to quickly prepare an appropriate answer for me. I also used the opportunity to modify the question so that it would be milder in case he wanted to give me a bashing. By the time I repeated the question, a quick answer did not come handy, so he resorted to a prayer. Pointing to me, Obasanjo declared like a pastor (after all, he studied Theology), “May God not allow you to slow down now!”

We all shouted a loud “Amen!” as his vehicle was being driven out of the Villa.

What manner of help from Nigeria to Germany?

Saturday last week, President Muhammadu Buhari joined other world leaders to condemn the shootings which recently rocked Munich, Germany. According to a statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr. Femi Adesina, the President sent his condolences on behalf of the Federal Government to the families and friends of the victims.

Maybe if the statement had ended at that, it would not have attracted the kind of criticism that trailed it. The statement further quoted the President as assuring the German government that his (Buhari’s) government was ready to assist in any way possible to defeat planners and executors of such crimes. “The President also assures the people of Germany that Nigerians as a people are standing with them at this time and are ready to assist in any way to defeat the planners and executors of such crimes,” it read.

Not a few people were surprised that Nigeria which still needs all the help it can muster from friendly nations to tackle its myriad of problems could be promising to help the “almighty Germany” to solve its problem.

It will be recalled that shortly after he was inaugurated in May 2015, the Group of Seven (G7) industrialised countries had invited Buhari to come to its summit with a wish list. G7 is a forum of the world’s seven most industrialised countries of United States, United Kingdom, Canada, France, Germany (which Nigeria wants to help), Italy and Japan which meets annually to deliberate on global economy, governance, international security and energy policy.

Top on the list of requests the President presented to the G7 leaders in Germany was the security issue. One year down the line, Buhari wanted all stakeholders to believe that Nigeria is already standing on a good footing as far as security is concerned to the point that it can now begin to help nations like Germany because of the recent unfortunate incident in Munich.

Will Buhari be sending troops to Germany or will he be helping the country with intelligence or military hardware? For me, that offer of help by Nigeria to Germany was a case of when one is knocked down by a big problem, smaller problems will seize the opportunity to pounce on one. Enjoy your weekend.

Manchester United 5-2 Galatasaray: Ibrahimovic & Rooney fire Mourinho's men to victory

Zlatan Ibrahimovic marked his Manchester United debut in style by scoring a spectacular bicycle kick in a 5-2 friendly victory over Galatasaray.

It took less than four minutes for the Swedish striker, playing on familiar territory at Gothenburg's Ullevi Stadium, to open his account, acrobatically despatching an Antonio Valencia cross from the right.

Wayne Rooney (two), Marouane Fellaini and Juan Mata also found the net for United, but new boss Jose Mourinho will be disappointed with the defending for the goals from Sinan Gumus and Bruma that left his side trailing 2-1 at the break.

Ibrahimovic was partially responsible for Galatasaray's equaliser midway through the half, needlessly giving away a foul 10 yards outside his own box.

One-time United transfer target Wesley Sneijder whipped in the resulting free-kick and the unmarked Gumus was left with the simple task of nodding the ball past the helpless David De Gea.

For Galatasaray's second goal five minutes before the break, United were guilty of granting Bruma too much time and space on the edge of the box and the Portugal Under-21 international took full advantage by bending a superb shot into the far corner.

Mourinho responded by introducing Marcus Rashford, Fellaini, Ashley Young, Michael Carrick and Jesse Lingard at the start of the second half, with Ibrahimovic and Anthony Martial among those to make way.

And the changes paid off almost immediately as Rooney scored twice in the space of four minutes to turn the game on its head.

Rooney's first was a close-range finish after Valenica supplied a fine cut-back from the byline, while the second came from the penalty spot.

It was Rooney who played Rashford in and, when the teenage striker was hauled down by Galatasaray goalkeeper Fernando Muslera following neat footwork, United's skipper duly converted the spot-kick.

The Super Lig side were still reeling three minutes later when Valencia again got away down the right before picking out Fellaini whose back-post header looped in to make it 4-2.

Mata completed the scoring 15 minutes from time, taking advantage of some sloppy defending to turn home Carrick's low cross from three yards out.

Next on the agenda for United is Rooney's testimonial against Everton, followed by Sunday's Community Shield clash with Leicester City.

16 feared dead in US balloon crash

Up to 16 people are feared dead after a large hot air balloon caught fire and crashed in central Texas on Saturday, officials said.

The accident took place shortly after 7:40 am (1240 GMT), when the balloon crashed into a field near Lockhart, around 30 miles (50 kilometres) south of Austin, Lynn Lunsford of the Federal Aviation Administration said in a statement.

“It does not appear at this time that there were any survivors of the crash,” the Caldwell County sheriff’s office said.

“When the Emergency Responders and the Sheriff’s Office arrived on the scene, it was apparent that the reported fire was the basket portion of a hot air balloon,” it added in a statement posted on Twitter.

FAA investigators were on their way to the site, Lunsford said, with the National Transportation Safety Board taking charge of the probe.

NTSB lead investigator Erik Grosof did not confirm the number of deaths or injuries, telling reporters only that “right now we have a number of fatalities.”

Texas Governor Greg Abbott offered condolences to those affected by the crash.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims and their families, as well as the Lockhart community,” he said in a statement.

A photo posted on social media apparently depicting the accident showed a balloon in the air with huge flames spurting underneath.

If all 16 fatalities are confirmed, the crash would be the deadliest US hot air balloon accident on record, according to the NTSB. Previously, the highest number of fatalities in a single hot air balloon crash was six.

Hot air balloon crashes are rare in the United States. The NTSB investigated 760 such accidents between 1964 and 2013. Of those, 67 were fatal.

Three people died in May 2014 during an air balloon festival in Virginia when a balloon hit a power line and burst into flames while landing.

Hot air balloons use propane gas to heat air that keeps them afloat. They are regulated by the FAA, which requires balloon pilots to be certified and for balloons to have air worthiness certificates.

The FAA inspects the balloons used for commercial ventures after 100 hours of flight time or at least once a year.

Koffi Olomide freed on bail in assault case

Star Congolese rumba singer Koffi Olomide, who was expelled from Kenya after allegedly kicking one of his dancers, was freed on bail Saturday in the Democratic Republic of Congo, his lawyer said.

The entertainer, who has recorded 26 albums, was thrown out of Kenya on July 23 where he was due to stage a concert after being filmed on arrival in Nairobi the day before, kicking out and lunging at one of his dancers.

“Prosecutors granted bail to Koffi Olomide because he does not present a flight risk,” said Benoit Tayeye, one of his lawyers. “The defence has shown that the singer has a known residence, is a famous music star and his principal interests are here in DRC.”

Authorities from the prosecutor’s office confirmed Olomide’s release from a Kinshasa jail, adding that the criminal case would not be dropped. The singer was charged Tuesday with assault and battery.

Neither the defence team nor the prosecution gave details about the bail fee.

Video footage of the incident went viral. A lawyer for Olomide said previously the singer was in fact trying to step in to resolve a dispute between his dancers and that his foot had slipped.

In August 2012, Koffi Olomide was handed a three-month suspended prison sentence for assaulting his producer.

If found guilty of kicking the dancer he will face between eight days and six months in jail.

Jailbreak at Kogi prison as 13 inmates escape

Thirteen inmates escaped in fresh jailbreak recorded at Koton Karfe prison in Kogi in the early hours of Saturday.

The News Agency of Nigeria learned that the incident happened at about 7am when the inmates forcefully brought down the wall of the prison.

The all male prison facility which was inaugurated in 2014 has the capacity to accommodate 180 inmates.

However, NAN gathered that it was accommodating 263 inmates as of the time of the jailbreak on Saturday.

It was also gathered that one of the escaped inmates was re-arrested almost immediately by security agents.

This is the third jailbreak recorded in Koton Karfe as the old prison facility witnessed similar jailbreaks in 2010 and 2013.

In previous jailbreaks 132 inmates escaped from the prison and majority were awaiting trials.

It was gathered that the Comptroller–General of the Nigeria Prison Service immediately sent a representative to Koton Karfe to assess the situation.

The State’s Controller of Prison, Mr Musa Maza, who would have shed more light on the incident, did not pick several calls made to his mobile telephone line.

Barcelona 3-1 Celtic: Spanish champions see past Brendan Rodgers' men in ICC

The SPL side were unable to match the Spanish champions in the friendly match in Dublin, despite Leigh Griffiths levelling the game in the first half

Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez made their first Barcelona appearances of pre-season as the Catalans started their International Champions Cup campaign with a 3-1 victory over Celtic in Dublin.

Argentina superstar Messi, playing for the first time since missing a penalty in Argentina's Copa America final shootout defeat to Chile, managed 45 minutes while Suarez - top scorer in LaLiga last term - lasted until the hour mark.

Barca were already 3-1 up at half-time. Arda Turan's excellent strike and a comical own goal from Efe Ambrose, either side of Leigh Griffiths taking advantage of some woeful defending, put Barca 2-1 ahead before Munir El Haddadi was also on the scoresheet before half-time.

All in all it was a good workout by the LaLiga champions, who took their foot off the gas somewhat after the break, and they next meet Premier League holders Leicester City on Wednesday.

Luis Enrique fielded an experimental back-line and a misunderstanding between centre-back pairing Jose Martinez and Jeremy Mathieu almost handed Celtic the lead within 15 seconds, with Patrick Roberts aiming just wide after picking up a loose ball.

It was Barca that struck first in the 11th minute, though. Aleix Vidal brilliantly jinked his way down the Celtic right and cut back for Turan, whose well-struck effort from the edge of the box found the top right-hand corner.

However, a horror mistake from Martinez gifted Griffiths the equaliser as the defender's heavy first touch after Masip's pass left the Celtic striker with an open goal to make it 1-1.

Barca were quickly back in front after another defensive howler as Ambrose inexplicably diverted Juan Camara's harmless cross from the left past Craig Gordon.

Celtic looked dangerous early in the second half when Nadir Ciftci volleyed just over the crossbar after Moussa Dembele's clever touch set him up, while Tom Rogic fired narrowly wide from 20 yards out.

Denis Suarez – who made his first appearance since his return to Barcelona from Villarreal – was unfortunate not to add a fourth, with substitute goalkeeper Leonardo Fasan making a fine save to deny the midfielder.

Seemingly content with their run out, Barca eased off in the closing stages and the match ended 3-1.

Man cuts off wife’s hand over alleged adultery in Abia

A man identified as Jacob Nwachukwu has reportedly cut off his wife’s left hand over an allegation of infidelity at Abala in Obingwa Local Government Area of Abia State.

It was gathered that the victim, Nwadiokeonu Nwachukwu, is currently receiving treatment at a local hospital in Aba, while her severed hand had been taken to her husband’s village at Abala for burial.

A female co-tenant of Mrs. Nwachukwu, who pleaded anonymity, told Southern City News that the couple had lived in the city for years before the husband lost his job and had to relocate to the village, leaving his wife, a trader, in the city.

She said, “The couple had always quarreled any time the man visited his wife in the city, to the extent that all the tenants are aware and intervened in their quarrels.”

It was gathered that the husband visited his wife on the fateful day and during their usual quarrel, brought out a machete, cut off the wife’s hand and left with it to the village while neighbours rushed her to the hospital.

The source alleged that Mr. Nwachukwu’s intention was to kill his wife with the machete but missed the target as the woman was said to have used her hand to defend herself before it (hand) was severed.

The wife’s suspected lover is said to be on the run while her landlord reported the incident to a police station close to the hospital along Ogbor Hill, where the woman is currently on admission.

While responding to a text message, the Area Commander, Aba Police Command, Mr. Peter Wabara, said the incident had yet to be reported to him.

But a police officer at Ogbor Hill Police Station confirmed the incident and said investigation into the matter had commenced.

Ibrahimovic: United fans are waiting for me

Ibrahimovic: United fans are waiting for me
Zlatan Ibrahimovic says Manchester United fans are every bit as excited as he is for his debut ahead of his first appearance for the club against Galatasaray in his native Sweden.

The former Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain man has been the most noteworthy acquisition of the transfer window thus far for United, who signed the classy striker on a free transfer from the French champions at the start of July.

Ibrahimovic missed the first part of United's pre-season – a trip to China in which they only played one game, a 4-1 loss to Borussia Dortmund, as inclement weather saw the cancellation of their second against cross-town rivals Manchester City – but was included in Jose Mourinho's squad for Saturday's clash with Turkish giants Galatasaray.

And with United fans starved of regular action thus far this pre-season and yet to see their new striker in action, Ibrahimovic says he can sense the excitement ahead of his non-competitive debut.

"Everybody has been waiting for that moment," he told MUTV.

"There has been a lot of talk and to make my debut in my country will feel great. I think the fans are waiting for me to come back and they are waiting to enjoy not only me, but the team as well.

"Hopefully, we can give them a good game and, at the same time, we are in the preparation. We need to keep focused, to build up the physical part and the conditioning part but we will give them what they want."

Ibrahimovic only joined United's pre-season training this week but he has been impressed with the squad Mourinho is assembling as well as the methodologies of the Portuguese manager, whom he is linking up with for the first time since winning the Serie A title with him at Inter in 2009.

"[It has been] positive vibes. They seem to be good guys, quality players, they train very hard and, during the training, are very focused," Ibrahimovic said.

"The coach - he is direct, he is concrete, he says what he wants and the players are adapting. So there are only positive things."

Jordan Spieth at Center of Latest Major Rules Controversy

Another day, another major championship rules kerfuffle.

Jordan Spieth shot a solid second-round 67 at the 98th PGA Championship at hot Baltusrol on Friday, but all anyone wanted to talk about afterward was a puddle on the gravel path to the right of the seventh fairway, and whether Spieth was stepping in it.

"It was no problem," Spieth told reporters afterward.

The trouble began when Spieth missed the seventh fairway, on his 16th hole of the day, wide right. His ball wound up in a puddle, and he conferenced with a PGA rules official. To take relief from both the puddle and the cart path, he'd have wound up dropping in a pine tree, which he obviously didn't want. So he took relief from only the casual water. He took a drop. He took another drop. He finally got to place the ball.

SCORES: PGA Championship Leaderboard

After the lengthy deliberation, which took 15 minutes as playing partners Sergio Garcia and Bubba Watson waited up ahead, Spieth ended up with a clean lie on the gravel path and hooked his second around the stand of trees on the way to making bogey.

It seemed like a long way to make 5, but a screen grab of his second shot seemed to show his left foot was still in the puddle. That would mean he didn't take "complete relief," as per the wording of Rule 24-2, which would've meant a one-stroke penalty.

After doing a TV interview with Fred Albers in which he said, "Ultimately, I still ended up playing with my toe in the water." Spieth told writers his foot "wasn't resting in it because it was on the cart path and [the puddle] was dug down. I say cart path; it's that gravel. So the waters dip down. So my toe wasn't on the water. I don't know if it matters or not, but it was certainly hovering over it."

As of 3:15 p.m. ET the PGA of America had not assessed a penalty on Spieth, who was three shots behind clubhouse leader Henrik Stenson (67).

"I trust my rules official there," Spieth said after the latest rules dustup involving high-definition TV and endless replays, which comes on the heels of much-discussed rulings at the U.S. Open and U.S. Women's Open earlier this summer. "I would have never hit if I was not told it was okay by a rules official. He told me it was fine."

The PGA of America issued a statement of explanation, invoking Decision 20-2c/0.8: "Jordan was entitled to either play the ball as it lay, even if his stance was still in the casual water, or he could have elected to take relief again from the casual water under this different type of stroke that he then elected to play."

I once rejected £1m bribe from a governor –Falana

Human rights lawyer, Mr. Femi Falana (SAN), says he once rejected a bribe of £1m from a governor he did not name. The EFCC Alert, a monthly magazine, quoted Falana as saying this at an anti-corruption workshop in Abuja recently.

Falana said the governor told him to help him launder the money to another country but he rejected the offer.

He said, “The governor asked me to assist him in transferring money abroad and I should claim it to be the proceeds of sale of his property. The price was extremely attractive. He was going to pay me a million pounds when money was money then.”

Falana said he was stunned when the governor told him that he had chosen him for the shady deal saying “nobody will suspect you.”

“I told him, Your Excellency, so it is my reputation that you want to buy with your £1m.”

The senior advocate said some of his colleagues accepted to launder the funds for the governor but were caught and exposed.

“Those who accepted the offer later found themselves in trouble as they were arrested and humiliated. They were only lucky not to have been charged,” Falana added.

Falana said it was unfortunate that lawyers had become tools of money laundering.

He expressed displeasure with the ruling of Justice Gabriel Kolawole of a Federal High Court in Abuja who held that Section 5 of the Money Laundering (Prohibitions) Act 2011 could not be applied to lawyers.

The judge in the ruling restrained the Federal Government, the Central Bank of Nigeria and the Special Control Unit against Money Laundering from enforcing the section as it relates to legal practitioners.

The ruling came despite the fact that the Act categorised legal firms as Designated Non-Financial Institutions mandated to record all transactions and forward to the Federal Ministry of Commerce for onward delivery to the Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit.

Falana, however, urged lawyers not to rely on the ruling as it would not stand the test of time.

Dwyane Wade's first job with the Bulls

When Dwyane Wade’s free-agent interest in the Chicago Bulls reached Jimmy Butler, it was Butler who became consumed with making the potential partnership a reality. The franchise’s lone All-Star, in between promotional events in Los Angeles, had placed calls to Wade and made clear his desire for Wade to leave Miami and sign with Chicago. Butler has admitted he could have better handled his relationships with two resolute leaders in Derrick Rose and Joakim Noah, and here comes one more into his life.

Butler wanted Wade – and got him.

Wade returned to his hometown for a news conference on Friday, and one teammate stood 15 feet to his left inside the Advocate Center: Butler. Bulls guard Rajon Rondo had called himself, Wade and Butler, “Three alphas,” and the immediate challenges of their cohesion looms over next season. Wade and Rondo have withstood trials and confrontations from major NBA stars and their egos for championships – Shaquille O’Neal, LeBron James, Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce and Ray Allen between them – but this task is fresh for Butler.

This roster and its personalities are a combustible proposition. The talents of Rondo, Wade and Butler call for elevated ball usage, and all are most potent mid-range jumper and in. Off the court, Wade has understood his responsibility goes beyond the $47 million contract and statistical production. He remembered Shaq’s introduction to the Heat in 2004, O’Neal declaring the team as Wade’s, and implemented the same response to these Bulls.

“This is Jimmy Butler’s team,” Wade said on Friday afternoon. “Him calling me during free agency – this wouldn’t be possible without Jimmy Butler. Me and Rondo will bring what we do as athletes and leaders … but it won’t be a tug and pull on whose team this is.

“I saw how Shaq handled it. I was 24 and playing for the U.S. team at the time that Shaq joined the Heat, and now Jimmy is 26 and he’s playing for the U.S. team. I love to play with a guy like Rondo; we’ve both had championship experiences. Jimmy will get better with what Rondo and I bring to the table.”

Now, the Bulls plan to move forward with this core of Rondo, Wade and Butler, and evaluate the progress in training camp and the regular season. They pursued a deal for Kris Dunn of Providence, and made overtures to Minnesota for the No. 5 pick and explosive guard Zach LaVine, as The Vertical reported on draft night. When the Timberwolves maintained their offer of guard Ricky Rubio and the No. 5 pick, Chicago moved on, reassured Butler of his stature within the organization and turned to free agency.

The rise of Butler over the past several years has been crafted in his rejection of a $44 million extension in 2014 to sign a $95 maximum deal last offseason, along with national exposure, but has yet to translate with his teammates, with significant playoff victories, with the proper understanding of a star’s leadership. In times of struggle or injury, his relationships with Rose and Noah turned unstable, and both now relish the opportunity as teammates with the New York Knicks.

For his part, Wade left his breakup with Miami in the past, and confirmed he and Pat Riley never had communication during free agency, that he only held negotiations with Micky and Nick Arison. “They’re the ones cutting the check,” he said. For Riley and Miami, this was a change of direction – away from the Heat’s longtime franchise cornerstone and toward younger players.

Wade has listened to the perception that these Bulls are his as the sole leader and star. He has eliminated that, and so did Rondo. They go through Jimmy Butler now – whether genuine or by design. Pursuing the construction of a formidable bond with another Marquette alum, this is Wade’s first duty, and it’s on Butler too.

“I need all the information on you, Jimmy,” Wade said, pointing at Butler. “What time you go to bed, what time you wake up. Your habits. …I’m not trying to play 40 minutes, I’ll let the young Bull over there handle it.”

Jimmy Butler had received knowledge of Wade considering joining Chicago earlier this month, and people around him say no message from a Bulls exec was needed. Butler made the call to Dwyane Wade, made his pitch about succeeding together, and the pressure to co-exist has followed Wade’s arrival.

Donald Trump Says Hillary Clinton 'Doesn't Know How to Win'

Donald Trump fired back at Hillary Clinton a day after she accused the Republican nominee of being too thin-skinned to have control of the country's nuclear arsenal, saying she "doesn't know how to win."

In a combative Democratic National Convention speech in which Clinton name-checked her Republican opponent 22 times, she said of Trump, “A man you can bait with a tweet is not a man we can trust with nuclear weapons.”

Trump defended himself in an interview with ABC News’ George Stephanopoulos and blasted Clinton as dishonest and weak.

“I think I have a great temperament, I have a temperament where I know how to win,” Trump said. “She doesn't know how to win, she's not a winner. She doesn't know how to win. And this country, if they choose her, this country will not be in good shape.”

He also accused Clinton of being dishonest about his abilities as a campaigner.

“I've had a beautiful, I've had a flawless campaign,” he said. “You'll be writing books about this campaign.”

Trump also said divisions still linger within the Democratic Party even after a convention that saw Clinton and her primary contender Sen. Bernie Sanders attempt to unify their supporters.

“If you look at what's going on in terms of unity, the Bernie people are angry. They're angry. He was angry,” Trump said. “What was amazing to me is when she was talking about Bernie last night, the camera was on him and he was angry. It almost looks like he has buyer’s remorse, like he shouldn't have made the deal.”

South-East needs visionary leader for future Presidency –Okorocha

Imo State Governor, Rochas Okorocha, has urged Igbo people to think outside the box in order to find a leader with vision and passion for the South-East to clinch the Presidency in future.

He said argument about where one comes from to be qualified for the Office of the President was immaterial, but warned that sticking to that policy might pave the way for the emergence of a greenhorn at the pinnacle of power.

Addressing journalists on the current national challenges, Okorocha attributed the raging crisis rocking the National Assembly to the emergence of some politicians in the leadership of the legislature.

The governor said the Peoples Democratic Party held the nation by the throat for many years because the party acquired power through the back door, which he claimed, placed the South-East at a disadvantaged leadership position in the National Assembly.

Okorocha, however, noted that the All Progressives Congress had become synonymous with the masses on account   of the implementation of good policies.

According to him, the success of the APC in the just concluded Imo North Senatorial rerun has now brightened the prospect of  the South-East to occupy the leadership position in the National Assembly.

The governor said the success of the APC in the rerun was a watershed in the political history of the APC in the South-East and expressed optimism that the party would enable the region to recover all that had eluded it.

While decrying the increasing monthly wage bill of civil servants in the state, which he described as the highest in the South-East, Okorocha said the state government would soon come up with an innovation to reduce the number of working days in the state to three days a week.

This, he said, would enable the civil servants to embark on some other vocations that would enable them to augment whatever they receive as salaries.

Okorocha described the demolition of some structure and the relocation of the Owerri main market within  Owerri  as inevitable options to advance the aesthetic nature of the city and its environ.

He added that his administration’s urban renewal programme would be sustained.

Meanwhile, it was learnt that apathy marred the Imo State rerun in Isiala Mbano and Oru East councils.

Heavily armed policemen took over the various polling stations in the designated voting centres in the Imo North Senatorial Districts (Okigwe zone) on Thursday.

Our correspondent,  who  monitored the exercise, reports that although  electoral officers  and materials meant for the exercise  arrived the centres on time, few  voters were seen in queues in most  of the voting centres.
