Cycling:Liam Phillips wins UCI BMX Supercross World Cup

Liam Phillips of Great Britain has become the first man to claim back-to-back UCI BMX Supercross World Cup titles.

The 26-year-old from Somerset was only sixth in South Carolina this weekend after unclipping from his pedal at the bottom of the start ramp in the final on a wet evening at Rock Hill.

However, wins in three of the five rounds - in Manchester, Angelholm (Sweden) and Santiago del Estero (Argentina) - were more than enough to clinch the title again for Phillips.

He finished on 865 points, 130 clear of Dutch world champion Niek Kimmann.

Phillips, the 2013 world champion, wrote on Instagram: "Back to back @UCIBMXSX World Cup Champ!!!! It's been an unforgettable season & I can't thank those that support me enough.

"Finally, it's been a pleasure racing and battling against you all the way to stop #5, @niekkimmann. Congrats on a remarkable season."

Two-time Olympic champion Maris Strombergs won the men's race at Rock Hill, while Colombia's Mariana Pajon, the London 2012 gold medallist, triumphed in the women's race to clinch the overall title.
