Juli Inkster could not contain her delight after watching her USA team mount an astonishing comeback to reclaim the Solheim Cup in Germany.
Europe looked poised to win for the third time running after opening up a 10-6 lead following a highly-controversial end to the delayed fourballs matches early on Sunday morning.
But the Americans dominated the 12 singles and earned the eight and a half points they needed to clinch a thrilling 14½-13½ victory, although their performance was overshadowed by the events of the morning.
USA rookie Lee missed a putt on the 17th and then picked up her ball under the assumption Europe had conceded - Charley Hull was already walking towards the last hole - only for Suzann Pettersen to claim Europe had not conceded the short putt that remained. The umpire intervened and Europe were awarded the hole.
The Solheim Cup was overshadowed by a controversial incident on Sunday morning
"I didn't have to say anything to them after this morning, they were all fired up and ready to go out and play," USA captain Inkster said afterwards.
