Golf:Justin Thomas wins maiden PGA Tour title at the CIMB Classic

Justin Thomas claimed his first victory on the PGA Tour after winning the CIMB Classic in Malaysia.

Thomas holed a five-foot par put on the final hole to secure a one-shot win over Adam Scott at the Kuala Lumpur Golf Club.

The 22-year-old from Kentucky, who posted a course-record 61 on Friday to take the halfway lead, entered the final round tied for top spot with Brendan Steele, and surged clear on his own courtesy of a six-under 66 which included birdies at three of his final four holes.

However, Thomas - needing a par on the 18th - made things tricky for himself when he sent a 25-foot birdie putt five feet past the hole, but kept his cool to close out the triumph with a four-round total of 26 under par.

"I still can't believe what happened," Thomas said. "I made that par to clinch the title. "I don't care how I got it done, it just feels awesome,"

The success lifted Thomas to No 1 in the fledgling 2015-16 FedExCup standings, three events into the campaign.

Former Masters champion Scott burst into contention with a flawless final round of 63 which included seven birdies and an eagle, but fell just short.

Kevin Na saw short putts lip-out at the 16th and 17th as he finished tied for third alongside overnight joint-leader Brendan Steele, while two-time defending champion Ryan Moore closed with a 69 to lie joint-tenth.
