All proceeds from the sale of the rare Adidas Predators will go to the British Red Cross' Europe Refugee Appeal after being donated by The Anfield Wrap podcast
A rare pair of Adidas football boots made to commemorate Steven Gerrard's final game for Liverpool has been sold on eBay for over £40,000.
Popular podcast 'The Anfield Wrap' donated the boots to the With Love From Liverpool campaign, with the proceeds going towards the British Red Cross' Europe Refugee Appeal.
Only 17 pairs of the Adidas Predators boots were made, one for every year Gerrard played for Liverpool, and has 'YNWA' printed across the heel along with the names of Gerrard's children and his initials.
Inside is a farewell message to Gerrard, who joined LA Galaxy after leaving Anfield in June, which reads: "You leave a legend, you’ll return a hero. The city of Liverpool is always with you. You’ll never walk alone."
Andy Heaton, from The Anfield Wrap, said: "Adidas sent us the boots as a gift and we pretty much decided early on that we wanted to somehow do something with them, as they were sat in a box in my lounge.
"I had a call from Sound City asking could TAW help support and publicise the 'Love From Liverpool’ refugees' benefit gig and we thought it was a good way to use them, so we offered them up.
"In the meantime, I contacted a mutual friend of Steven to see if he'd sign them for the refugees' cause, which he was happy to do, which has obviously massively added to their value.
"They were originally going to be offered up as a prize but Sound City wisely decided they'd raise more at auction."
