A thigh injury sustained in Saturday's Clasico will see the Argentine miss the Champions League game, with Sergi Samper taking his place in the squad
Javier Mascherano has not been named in Barcelona's squad for Tuesday’s Champions League match with Roma.
The versatile 31-year-old picked up a thigh injury during Barca's emphatic 4-0 win over Real Madrid in Saturday's Clasico, a collision with James Rodriguez forcing him off after 27 minutes.
Argentina international Mascherano sustained only bruising with no muscle damage, but the problem is severe enough to keep him out of the game at Camp Nou.
Mascherano’s place in the 18-man squad has been taken by Sergi Samper, as Barca, who are top of Group E with 10 points, aim to seal progression to the last 16.
After returning to action as a second half substitute against Madrid, Lionel Messi could make his first start since recovering from the knee injury he sustained against Las Palmas in September.
