Novak Djokovic coasted past the challenge of Ze Zhang at the China Open on Thursday.
The spectacle of watching the world's top player against his 219th-ranked counterpart, and China's top representative, ended with Djokovic strolling to the finishing line of their second-round match with a 6-2 6-1 win.
The omens were not good for the home player when Djokovic broke at the first time of asking, opening a three-game lead in the blink of an eye.
Zhang, for his part, gamely held his next serve but Djokovic, without moving out of first gear, broke again for a sixth game to win the first set in just 26 minutes.
He immediately toppled Zhang's serve in the second set although the Chinaman, in a repeat of the opener, held on with his second try.
The Serb broke again to go 5-1 and, when it appeared the game was up, Zhang enjoyed his finest moment with a drop shot that outfoxed his foe.
It was too little too late, however, as Djokovic served himself into the quarter-finals after 53 minutes.
Previously, Fabio Fognini defeated seventh seed David Goffin 6-2 2-6 6-2 and Pablo Cuevas beat Ivo Karlovic 7-6(5) 7-6(7).
