Cricket:Matt Machan will be staying with Sussex after a successful 2014

Matt Machan says he is 'delighted' to have signed a new Sussex deal
Sussex batsman Matt Machan will be staying with the county until at least the end of the 2018 season after signing a new three-year contract.

The 24-year-old left-hander, a Scotland international, enjoyed a successful 2015 campaign, scoring 955 runs in the LV= County Championship and 377 in one-day cricket.

Machan made three Championship centuries, including a career-best 192 against Somerset at Taunton, and his crucial 52 helped the Sharks to a dramatic NatWest T20 Blast win over Hampshire.

"I've played at the club since I was 10 and to sign for at least another three years is fantastic," he said.

"I'm absolutely delighted. I obviously want to play for Sussex and I feel the club is moving forward with a young squad.

"Three years definitely gives me that security to try and become a real senior player at this club, and to kick on next year and win games of cricket for Sussex."

Mark Robinson, who is Professional Cricket Manager at Sussex, added: "Matt had a very good year and learnt his lessons from a hard 2014 season.

"He's got everything in place to become a very dangerous player in all competitions. As a homegrown player, he's the type of character and player who will carry us forward in the future."
