Klopp turns to Liverpool youth for Bournemouth League Cup clash

The German coach will field a vastly changed side for the visit of Eddie Howe's men after being impressed by some of the club's younger players in training

Jurgen Klopp has turned to youth as he targets his first win as Liverpool manager with Connor Randall, Cameron Brannagan and Joao Teixeira set to start against Bournemouth.

The trio impressed the 48-year-old with their application and attitude in training, securing places in the starting XI for Wednesday night’s League Cup clash at Anfield.

Liverpool have drawn the opening three games under their new boss, and are determined to buck that trend in the fourth-round tie.

Randall, a local-born player, has been on the club’s books since the age of eight. The 20-year-old, who celebrated his birthday last week, will now toast his Reds debut.

Brannagan, 19, will make his maiden start after appearing against Bordeaux in the Europa League. The midfielder, who Klopp described as “strong, clear and cool” has recently signed a new two-year contract.

Teixeira, meanwhile, is back in the mix for the first time since being subbed on against Fulham in the Premier League in February last year.

All three will look to further excite Klopp, who places great importance on youth development. In his pre-match press conference at Melwood, the German revealed that turning the potential of starlets into end product “is one of the reasons I'm here. Everybody wants this here and I want this too.”

Adam Bodgan will replace Simon Mignolet for a much-changed Liverpool, who will look to shuffle their injury-hit squad.
