NFL:Joe Philbin fired as coach of Miami Dolphins

Joe Philbin is out as Miami Dolphins coach
Joe Philbin has been fired as head coach of the Miami Dolphins, 24 hours after their defeat by the New York Jets in London.

Miami dropped to 1-3 after they were beaten 27-14 on Sunday in the first of three games this season at Wembley Stadium.

The Dolphins started the season with a narrow win over the Washington Redskins, but have since been beaten by the Jacksonville Jaguars, Buffalo Bills and the Jets, with their defense ripped to shreds in the last two weeks.

Tight ends coach Dan Campbell will take over on an interim basis, with the Dolphins not playing again until October 18 against the Tennessee Titans.

Philbin leaves the Dolphins after winning 24 of his 52 games in charge.

Dolphins owner Stephen Ross said: "This was a tough decision for me to make knowing how tirelessly Joe worked in his four years here to make this a winning team.

"He is a man of the highest character and integrity that I developed a close personal relationship with.

"I am extremely disappointed with how we have started the season, but I feel confident that we can improve quickly with the talent we have on our roster. We will soon be announcing an interim coach to lead the team going forward."
