Cycling:Laura Trott claims third European Championships title with omnium gold

Laura Trott secured victory in the omnium to take her third gold medal of the European Track Cycling Championships.

Having led overnight, Trott, who had already won gold in the women’s team pursuit and the scratch race, sealed her latest success in the six-discipline event after the points race.

The Olympic gold medallist had earlier finished second in the time trial and first in the flying lap, as she took her 10th European track title to become the competition’s most successful rider.

On the final day of the championships in Grenchen, Switzerland, Katie Archibald successfully defended her individual pursuit title and Ciara Horne won bronze.

Archibald, who alongside Horne had won gold with Trott in the women’s team pursuit, recorded a time of 3min 32.832 seconds to take gold ahead of Holland’s Elise Delzenne.
