Breastfeeding won't stop Robbie Keane, says Roy Keane.

Republic of Ireland fans will be sleeping like babies tonight as assistant manager Roy Keane has claimed Robbie Keane won't be "breastfeeding" his newborn son instead of starring in their crucial Euro 2016 qualifier against Germany.

Robbie and Claudine Keane announced their second son was born on Monday, with the LA Galaxy forward absent from training with his national side the following day ahead of joining up with his international team-mates on Wednesday.

Martin O'Neill's No.2 made a mocking suggestion that the ex-Tottenham striker, 35, would only be unfit to play if he had given birth himself, insisting Robbie Keane's teets would be firmly tethered for Thursday's clash with the world champions.

"Why wouldn't he be [able to play]?" Roy Keane retorted when asked about the striker's availability for the Group D tussle.

Addressing the issue of the new arrival directly, the ex-Manchester United midfielder added: "Well, he didn't have the baby. Unless he's breastfeeding, he should be all right."
