The New York Jets rallied late to force overtime and eventually beat the New York Giants 23-20 in a massive blow to their rivals' divisional title hopes.
The Giants scored all 20 of their points in the second quarter to claim a 20-10 lead but Ryan Fitzpatrick's late touchdown pass to Brandon Marshall tied the scores and a Randy Bullock field goal saw them home in the added period.
Dwayne Harris ignited the Giants with an 80-yard punt return for a touchdown and, after Bilal Powell had replied for the Jets, human highlight reel Odell Beckham Jr hauled in an Eli Manning pass and ran in 72 yards to make it 17-7.
But the Giants were unable to score a single point in the entire second half, or in overtime, and Fitzpatrick found it much easier to move the ball.
The Jets' final regulation drive ended in a nine-yard pass from Fitzpatrick to Marshall that tied the scores with 32 seconds remaining, and they started overtime with a lengthy drive that culminated in Bullock's 31-yard field goal.
Manning hooked up with Beckham on a fourth down to keep the Giants alive on their must-score drive, and they set up Josh Brown for a 48-yarder to keep the game going, but the normally reliable kicker missed his effort to drop the Giants to 5-7 in an NFC East that remains wide open.
The Washington Redskins lead the division with a 5-6 record heading into their Monday Night Football clash with the Dallas Cowboys, who remain in with a chance despite their 3-8 record.
The Buffalo Bills stayed alive in the AFC wildcard race with a 30-21 win over the Houston Texans that included three Tyrod Taylor touchdown passes.
Taylor hooked up with Sammy Watkins, Robert Woods and Charles Clay and also rushed for a score as the Bills moved to 6-6, one game behind the Jets.
The Miami Dolphins (5-7) made the most of two quick touchdowns in the second quarter to hold off the Baltimore Ravens 15-13.
They took the lead on a 38-yard pass from Ryan Tannehill to rookie receiver DeVante Parker, and three plays later made it 15-0 when Derrick Shelby tipped a Matt Schaub pass and ran it back 22 yards for a score. Englishman Jay Ajayi rushed into the endzone for a two-point conversion.
Buck Allen had 170 all-purpose yards for the Ravens (4-8) and scored on a 41-yard pass from Schaub, but that was their only touchdown of the game and Justin Tucker missed a field goal that would have put Baltimore in front less than three minutes from time.
Another game that went to overtime saw the San Francisco 49ers (4-8) beat the Chicago Bears 26-20 and all but end the Bears' hopes of making the post-season.
Blaine Gabbert rushed for a 44-yard touchdown to level the scores with less than two minutes remaining and, after Robbie Gould badly missed a field goal to win it for Chicago (5-7), Gabbert hit Torrey Smith for a 71-yard game-winner.
The Cincinnati Bengals were dominant in beating the Cleveland Browns 37-3, with quarterback Andy Dalton responsible for three of their touchdowns as they improved to 10-2 on the season.
Dalton hit AJ Green and Marvin Green for scores, and also ran for a touchdown along with Jeremy Hill in a one-sided game that saw Browns quarterback Austin Davis struggle badly.
The most exciting of the early games saw Marcus Mariota inspire the Tennessee Titans to a 42-39 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars, with Blake Bortles throwing five touchdown passes in a losing effort.
Bortles and Allen Robinson linked up for three scores and he also found Rashad Greene and Julius Thomas in the endzone, while TJ Yeldon ran for another touchdown.
But Mariota kept the Titans (3-9) in the game with three touchdowns of his own - to Dorial Green-Beckham, Delanie Walker and Craig Stevens - and won it for the Nashville faithful when he broke clear for an 87-yard rushing score.
In the late game, Ben Roethlisberger threw for 364 yards and four touchdowns as the Pittsburgh Steelers cruised to a 45-10 win over the Indianapolis Colts.
Antonio Brown caught eight passes for 118 yards and two scores and also returned a punt 71 yards for a touchdown for the Steelers.
Martavis Bryant hauled in four passes for 114 yards and a score, while DeAngelo Williams added 134 yards rushing as Pittsburgh shook off a slow start to dominate the Colts over the final three quarters.
