Gunners crumble and miss chance to move top as they lost 4-0 to Southampton.

Goals from Cuco Martina, Shane Long (2) and Jose Fonte helped the Saints pick up three points and ensured Leicester City ended the day at the top of the Premier League

Southampton thumped Arsenal 4-0 on Boxing Day as the Gunners missed the chance to move above Leicester City at the top of the Premier League table.

Leicester’s one-goal loss at Liverpool earlier in the day had opened the door for Arsene Wenger’s side, who came into the game on the back of an impressive win against Manchester City.

However, they fell behind to a brilliant effort from Cuco Martina in the first half and were never able to recover.

A second half double from Shane Long and a Jose Fonte header ensured Southampton picked up the three points against an Arsenal side who never got going.
