Barcelona perform U-turn on new signing after offensive tweets emerge
Barcelona have cancelled Sergi Guardiola’s contract just hours after signing him from from Alcorcon.

The 24-year-old was one of three signings announced on Monday for Barca B, but tweets he posted in 2013 have come back to haunt him.

Guardiola directed abusive messages at both Barcelona and Catalonia.

In tweets that were shared after his signing was revealed, the attacking midfielder also praised Real Madrid.

“HALA MADRID puta [f**k] cataluna,” he wrote in one tweet in 2013 - with the sentiment echoed in several other tweets.

The Catalan club said in a statement on Monday: “FC Barcelona have decided to rescind the contract signed by the player Sergi Guardiola this afternoon, who was due to join Barça B.

“It emerged that he has published offensive tweets about both Barcelona and Catalonia.”

Barca also signed midfielder Josep Miquel Fernandez from UE Cornella and left-back Moises Delgado from Sevilla Atletico.
