Los Blancos tasted victory 16 times in a row before the Yellow Submarine ended their amazing streak, which levelled Barcelona's efforts in the 2010-11 season
Real Madrid's incredible La Liga run finally came to an end on Wednesday against Villarreal, leaving them agonisingly close to toppling the mark set by Barcelona.
Zinedine Zidane's men had won their last 16 outings in the league, a record shared by their Catalan rivals who achieved the feat in 2010-11.
But they were thwarted of their hopes of taking the milestone outright by the Yellow Submarine, who held the Merengue to a 1-1 draw at Santiago Bernabeu.
Despite dropping points, Madrid still sit pretty at the top of La Liga after five rounds, having picked up 13 points from a possible 15.
