A 29-year-old man has been remanded in jail for the murder of his two daughters for reasons that are yet to be disclosed.
The accused, Anyaogu Samuel, was remanded at the Federal Prisons, Koton-Karfe, Kogi State and denied bail by a Lokoja Chief Magistrates’ Court on Monday, September 26.
Samuel is accused of allegedly killing his nine-months-old daughter, Chinoso, and two-year-old Miracle.
The court heard that the kids were killed on December 25, 2015, and January 1, 2016, respectively.
Police prosecutor, Sgt. Tuesday Ganagana revealed that the matter was reported by the mother of the children identified as Grace Edwin, at the ‘A’ Division Police Headquarters and CIID, Lokoja.
The complainant who resides in Nataco Area Lokoja claimed that the accused suffocated the nine-month-old on Christmas day, alleging that Samuel deliberately covered the baby's nostril's and mouth while pretending to play with her, which led to her death.
Chinonso was reportedly confirmed dead at the Federal Medical Centre, Lokoja.
Ganagana added that the complainant also alleged that Samuel put Chinonso's corpse into a sack and dumped it into a stream beside the NITEL office in Lokoja on December 26, 2015, at about 02:08 am.
The accused is also alleged to have hit Miracle on the head leading to her instant death on Jan. 1, 2016 at about 6:00 pm and dumped the toddler's body into the same stream, threatening to kill Grace if she ever revealed the cause of the children's death.
The complainant was later pressured by her family members to report the sordid case to the police.
Chief Magistrate, Mr Levi Animoku, denied the accused bail, saying, “This court declines to admit the accused to bail, consequently, he shall be remanded at the Federal Prisons, Koton-Karfe, Kogi State."
Mr Animoku adjourned the case till October 18 for mention.
