Edo State Governor, Mr. Adams Oshiomhole, has accused a former governor of the state, Chief Lucky Igbinedion, and his then Secretary to the State Government, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, of diverting N4bn.
Oshiomhole, who spoke in a statement on Friday by his Chief Press Secretary, Peter Okhiria, explained that the money was a bank loan allegedly borrowed by the Igbinedion administration.
He alleged that the loan was borrowed from two commercial banks and paid to a private address in Lagos State.
Oshiomhole was reacting to a claim by the Peoples Democratic Party that the recent figures released by the Debt Management Office on Edo State’s foreign indebtedness had vindicated the party’s position that the state was highly indebted.
He said, “While Ize-Iyamu continues to peddle his falsehood, we have the record of the N4bn borrowed by the PDP government of Mr. Lucky Igbinedion, with the knowledge of Osagie Ize-Iyamu, as Secretary to the State Government from Guaranty Trust Bank and Equatorial Trust Bank and paid to an address in Lagos.”
But Ize-Iyamu, who is now the PDP governorship candidate, denied the allegation and described Oshiomhole as a “shameless liar.”
He said, “If there was any truth in it, why has he not reported to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission?
“I do not know about Igbinedion. I did not steal any money; I have a clean name.”
