Tennis:Bruno Soares and Elena Vesnina win Australian Open mixed doubles
Bruno Soares secured his second Australian Open title by winning the mixed doubles alongside Elena Vesnina.
The Brazilian returned to the Rod Laver Arena in Melbourne on Sunday just 16 hours after capturing the men's doubles crown with Britain's Jamie Murray.
But Soares coped admirably with the quick turnaround as he and Russian Vesnina won the last four points of the match tiebreaker after going 3-0 down to triumph 6-4 4-6 10-5 against American Coco Vandeweghe and Hora Tecau of Romania.
Soares revealed he had not finished his media commitments after the men's doubles final until 2am on Sunday and then had to do some Brazilian press requests from his hotel room.
"I went to bed at 5, set my alarm for 11, woke up at 8:30... been living on coffee ever since," Soares said after his victory. "So I had 22 coffees already.
"It was all worth it. I knew I had another important day today, you don't get a chance to play many Grand Slam finals. I mean, I got two in the same day."
Vesnina had been beaten in her previous three mixed doubles finals at a grand slam tournament and Soares paid tribute to his partner.
"Elena carried me the whole week. She was awesome," he said.
