Afcon Qualifiers: Oliseh to bring seven CHAN Eagles into squad to play Egypt

.
The Nigeria coach has put behind his recent outburst as he looks forward to next month’s pair of Africa Cup of Nations qualifying games against the Pharaohs

Coach Sunday Oliseh wants to ensure that the best legs are invited for the all-important Africa Cup of Nations qualification matches against Egypt next month.

Putting aside his recent troubles, Oliseh told Goal that it was time to face serious business while stating that at least seven players the CHAN squad would be invited to camp barring injuries or loss of form.

“I have already worked with the home-based team for like a month and half now. So we already know among the home-based those that we are going to invite for the game proper,” Oliseh said.

“From the CHAN we have like seven players that I have found very good (to be in the main team of the Eagles). I think they can stand the high level required. I put them towards a lot of high tempo pace and everything and they were able to cope.

“From the 2016 CHAN Super Eagles team, it is no secret that Ifeanyi Mathew was probably our most consistent and our best player there. For that reason personally he is supposed to make the team but I hope he doesn’t lose form or get injured before the time we will converge for the match. He is one of the players I am looking to invite to join the team.

“But like I always said I will invite all of them and try to get two players for each wing and then they will fight it out at training. The one who shows that he is ready and in top form will play. Then once they are in camp I don’t see home-based or foreign-based again. They are all Super Eagles players.

“So all I am doing now is looking at the current form of the players that we have in Europe and that is why I am going around to see the players in action for their clubs in Europe. This week I have scheduled to watch some games in (Europe) and see how the players are doing. Based on this we will then decide who to invite for the Egypt match,” he disclosed.

The former Juventus of Italy midfielder also revealed that he has already embarked on a European tour to monitor the form of his players and that it would be the yard stick and very important determinant to invite the players that will play for the Eagles against Egypt.

He also solicited for fans support for him and his team to overcome the Egypt’s huddle.

“Firstly we thank Nigerians for the usual support they have been giving us all this while. At the same time also we are going to need them from the moment the players come into Nigeria and when we take off to play the second leg too in Egypt. We need their support at all cost. Without them we won’t make it. We need them to be the 12th player when we play Egypt,” he pleaded.
