Pakistan drop Ahmed Shehzad and include Mohammad Amir in ICC World Twenty20 squad
Pakistan have included Mohammad Amir in their squad for the Asia Cup and ICC World Twenty20.
The left-arm fast bowler is now set for his first global tournament following his return to action after serving a five-year ban from cricket for spot-fixing.
Amir was back in Pakistan colours for their recent tour of New Zealand and he has kept his place in a squad which has four changes.
Opener Ahmed Shehzad has been dropped after scoring just 33 runs in the 2-1 Twenty20 series defeat to the Black Caps last month.
Batsman Sohaib Maqsood, paceman Umar Gul and wicketkeeper-batsman Mohammad Rizwan have also been left out, with the squad selected after considering the conditions in Bangladesh, who will host the Asia Cup from February 24 to March 6, and India, where the World Twenty20 will be staged from March 8 to April 3.
Shehzad's place goes to 29-year-old Khurram Manzoor, who has played 16 Tests and seven one-day internationals for Pakistan but has never featured in a Twenty20 game. He scored 309 runs in Pakistan's domestic Twenty20 tournament with a strike-rate of 133.
Left-arm paceman Rumman Raees and left-arm spinning all-rounder Mohammad Nawaz have also been rewarded for their performances at domestic level.
Fast bowler Mohammad Irfan is back in the squad after being rested for the Twenty20 series in New Zealand.
Chief selector Haroon Rasheed said: "While picking the squad, the team management and skipper were consulted by the selectors, and all concerned gave their consent in this regard.
"The T20 team has been selected keeping in mind the conditions and the recent performances of some players in domestic and A team tours. The team is a fine blend of experience and youth and the selectors believe that team will do well in both tournaments."
Pakistan squad: Shahid Afridi (capt), Mohammad Hafeez, Shoaib Malik, Umar Akmal, Sarfraz Ahmed, Babar Azam, Iftikhar Ahmed, Imad Wasim, Anwar Ali, Mohammad Irfan, Wahab Riaz, Mohammad Amir, Mohammad Nawaz, Khurram Manzoor, Rumman Raees.
