Tennis:Johanna Konta defeated in second round in Acapulco

Johanna Konta was the first British female to reach a Grand Slam semi-final for 32 years
British No 1 Johanna Konta bowed out of the Abierto Mexicano Telcel in Acapulco with a second-round defeat to Mirjana Lucic-Baroni.

Konta, seeded fourth for the tournament, was beaten 4-6 6-2 7-5 by the 33-year-old Croatian in her first event since reaching the semi-finals of the Australian Open.

The Briton, who defeated Estonia's Anett Kontaveit on Tuesday, looked comfortable as she started the match by wrapping up the first set 6-4 in 45 minutes.

Lucic-Baroni responded to Konta's first-set win by breaking twice in the second set to race to 5-1, and despite breaking back in the seventh game, a hold of serve was enough for the world No 68 to even the match at one set apiece.

In the deciding set, Lucic-Baroni resumed control and again broke Konta's serve twice, but this time the world No 26 broke back to level the scores at 5-5.

In the 11th game, Konta had two break points but was unable to convert them, and it was yet again the Briton's service game which let her down. Lucic-Baroni broke Konta for the third time in the set to secure her place in the third round after two hours and five minutes.

Fellow Briton Aljaz Bedene is also out of the men's event following a 4-6 7-6 (7-3) 4-6 second-round loss to Dutchman Robin Haase.
