DR Congo – Guinea Preview: Leopards ambush Syli nationale for final spot

The west Africans have not lost a game in the tournament, and must dismiss Florent Ibengé’s side to face Mali or Cote d’Ivoire in the final

Amahoro Stadium, Kigali hosts the first semi-final game of the 2016 African Nations Championship in Rwanda.

Debutants Guinea have staggered many people’s expectations by reaching the semis having cleared pre-tournament favorites Nigeria and Zambia off the road to reach this stage. Picking their team from six Guinean clubs was thought to be a weakness; the impact of some of their star names has really been a real asset in their run to the semi-finals.

Mohamed Bangoura’s men are not a high scoring team but their ability to fight back from a goal(s) deficit lies their strength, and they showed their doggedness when they dismissed Chipolopolo from the quarters on penalties.

For DR Congo, coach Florent Ibengé is expected to retain the same team that caged host Rwanda 2-1 in the last eight, and the Leopards must be wary of the attacking threats of Alseny Camara, Daoudu Camara and Abdulaye Samake.

Unlike the 2009 champions DR Congo, the Guineans are yet to lose any game in Rwanda but are inferior to the east Africans in terms of goals scored. While Ibengé’s side boast of a chunky nine goals in four games, Bangoura’s team side account for just five

Defensively, they have let in just four goals in sharp contrast to Congo’s six. And the winner faces either Mali or Cote d’Ivoire in the final on February 7 at the Amahoro Stadium, Kigali.
