While Manchester has a well-earned reputation as the city where it never stops raining, Tuesday's downpour caught everyone by surprise.
The heavens opened over town and covered Manchester City's Etihad Stadium under water, in scenes more reminiscent of a biblical epic than a Champions League match.
As neither City nor Borussia Monchengladbach had an ark to hand, the group stage clash was unsurprisingly called off.
And Twitter took no time in passing judgement on the events, combining two classic components of everyday small talk in football and the weather.
Announcement in a few minutes as to whether City-Gladbach is off...
Honestly I’m not laughing that this is the first day my 19yo son has helped out with the car parks near city #rain #manchester
