Breaking news:Roma sack Rudi Garcia

Roma sack Rudi Garcia
The Frenchman leaves the club fifth in Serie A, seven points off table-topping Napoli, with Luciano Spalletti widely expected to return to the Stadio Olimpico as his successor

Roma have parted company with head coach Rudi Garcia, the club announced in a statement on Wednesday.

The Giallorossi had begun the Serie A season with hopes of claiming the title from Juventus, but a poor start hampered their progress, falling behind Napoli, Inter and the Bianconeri.

With their form failing to pick up, the former Lille boss has now left Rome, and, in a statement on the club's official website, president James Pallotta suggested it is "the right time for a change".

"On behalf of myself and everyone at AS Roma, I’d like to thank Rudi Garcia for all of his hard work since joining the club," the statement read.

"We’ve all enjoyed some great moments during his time at Roma but we believe that this is the right time for a change."

Former Roma coach Luciano Spalletti is widely expected to succeed Garcia, who leaves with the club fifth in the Serie A standings and seven points off table-topping Napoli.

Spaletti spent four years at the Stadio Olimpico, winning the Coppa Italia twice and Supercoppa Italiana once.
