Boxing:Juan Manuel Marquez may return to fight Miguel Cotto, says trainer

Juan Manuel Marquez may return to take on Miguel Cotto
Trainer Nacho Beristain suggests Juan Manuel Marquez could to return to face former world middleweight champion Miguel Cotto.

Marquez (56-7-1-KO42) has not fought since May 2014 but Beristain welcomed the news that Cotto's trainer Freddie Roach sees the legendary Mexican as the 'perfect opponent' for the Puerto Rican.

"[Marquez] has never closed the door [on fighting again] and he's made no decision to retire from boxing," Nacho told Fox Deportes.

I have not spoken with Juan Manuel for three months, but I know him and he's never had any problems with inactivity.

"I have not spoken with Juan Manuel for three months, but I know him and he's never had any problems with inactivity. He can still return straight to training.

"I do not rule out [this version of Marquez] being capable of fighting against Cotto. If [Marquez] returns to the ring, I don't think it is unreasonable to do it with an opponent of that level. It would be a good fight, given their styles."

Marquez, who is now 42, has won world titles at four weights and his last bout - a unanimous points victory over Mike Alvarado in Inglewood, California - was a welterweight title eliminator.

Cotto (40-5-0-KO33) enters another rebuilding phase after losing his WBC world title to Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez in November.
