Van Persie adds to impressive record of netting in derby encounters

The Netherlands international striker has now netted in the Kitalararasi, North London, Manchester and North-West Derbies as well as De Klassieker

Robin van Persie added to his remarkable scoring record in derby encounters on Sunday as he found the target for Fenerbahce in their clash with arch-rivals Galatasaray.

The Dutchman bagged a brace for his Turkish employers as they prevailed 2-0 in the Kitalararasi Derbi.

Those efforts are the latest in a long line of strikes for the 33-year-old in fixtures that matter the most.

Having started out at Feyenoord, Van Persie was on target in a De Klassieker clash with Ajax in February 2003.

Moving on to Arsenal, the Netherlands international netted in a memorable North London derby encounter with Tottenham at the Emirates in October 2008 that finished 4-4.

He then found the target on his Manchester derby debut for United in a 3-2 victory over City, with his deflected stoppage-time free-kick settled a thrilling contest in December 2012.

Van Persie had also been among the goals earlier in that season against Liverpool, with another late winner snatched in a 2-1 success at Anfield.

That remarkable haul now includes two goals in the biggest game in Super Lig.

The experienced frontman was the star of the show against Galatasaray, with his efforts seeing him achieve more than just another big match win.

Van Persie has struggled for form and fitness at times during his spell in Turkey, but he appears to be back to his best this season and will hope that there are many more goals to come.
