Ooni advises youths on selfless service, bags honorary degree

The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, on Saturday, called on youths in the country to dedicate their service to mankind as part of efforts to promote national development.

The monarch made the call shortly after being conferred with an honorary Doctor of Law degree at the 14th convocation ceremony of the Igbinedion University, Okada, Edo State.

Also present at the event were Governor Godwin Obaseki; his Chief of Staff, Taiwo Akerele; a former governor of the state, Chief Lucky Igbinedion; representatives of the Oba of Benin, and the Chancellor of the university, Chief Gabriel Igbinedion.

Other honorary awardees were the Chairman of Agba Community Development Association, Pastor Osarenren Ighiwi, and the Group Managing Director of Nabegu Company Nigeria Limited, Alhaji Aminu Nabegu.

While appreciating the chancellor for the award, the Ooni described the university as a legacy that would outlive him.

Oba Ogunwusi said, “There is nothing as good as serving your people, giving back to your people. If you think people are not noticing whatever you are doing for them, be it good or bad, history will judge every one of us.”

Obaseki pledged that his administration would ensure that development was driven by knowledge.
