A civil servant in Imo State on Friday, slumped along MCC/Uratta road Owerri, the state capital.
The worker who was simply identified as Theordore Nwagwu was said to be a member of staff of Ministry of Commerce and Tourism.
An eye witness who gave his name as Steve Anyanwu, told our correspondent that the said Theordore slumped while trekking to work from Umuorii, owing to non-payment of salaries.
Further investigations revealed that Theordore was owed four months’ salary arrears by the State Government and was also servicing a loan.
The source said, “Theordore took a loan of N1.1m from a bank to be deducted at source by the bank whenever salary comes in. Unfortunately for Theodore, his mother died and has yet to be buried.”
Also, somebody who identified himself as Theodore’s nephew but refused to give his name, claimed the victim had been getting pressure from the bank who he claimed had already collected two months interest of the loan out of the one month salary that he received.
He said, “I heard him when he was saying he would begin the preparation for his mother’s burial when the four months’ salary arrears come. I knew he slumped out of pressure especially when the bank collected over N88, 000 being the interest of his loan for two months instead of N44,000 for one month.”
