Tite to name first Brazil squad

Tite to name first Brazil squad

The former Corinthians boss had hoped to postpone his announcement in order to further assess the Selecao's Olympians but his application was refused by FIFA

On Monday Tite will select his first squad as Brazil coach.

The former Corinthians boss, who succeeded Dunga in June following the Selecao’s first-round exit at Copa America, will name his 23-man group for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Ecuador and Colombia.

With the five-time world champions currently in action at the Rio 2016 Olympics, Tite had requested to postpone the announcement, but the Brazilian Football Confederation’s (CBF) application was reused by FIFA who insist squads must be named at least 15 days before upcoming FIFA dates.

The 55-year-old had wanted longer to assess the performances of the Under-23 side currently competing for the five-time world champions’ first Olympic gold, with a number of the Olympians in contention for a new-look Brazil squad.

Since his June appointment, Tite has sent staff around Europe and to China to observe those in contention.

With two wins and three draws from their first six qualifiers, Brazil currently occupy sixth place in CONMEBOL's World Cup qualifying table for 2018, one place outside the final qualifying position.

Brazil travel to Quito to face second-placed Ecuador on August 1 before hosting Colombia in Manaus on August 6.

Tite will announce his squad at 16:00 local time from the CBF headquarters in Rio de Janeiro.
