Nick Rimando sets all-time MLS win record
The Real Salt Lake keeper picked up his 181st victory, moving him into first place in MLS history.

Real Salt Lake keeper Nick Rimando went into the history books Saturday evening with his MLS-record 181st career win.

The 37-year-old backstopped a 3-1 victory over the Chicago Fire, allowing him to pass former record holder Kevin Hartman. Rimando made a pair of point-blank range stops on Nick LaBrocca in stoppage time to add an exclamation point on his record-setting night.

Rimando began his career with the Miami Fusion in 2000, before moving on to D.C. United in 2002 and finally Salt Lake in 2007, where he has picked up 115 of his 181 wins.

Rimando has won the MLS Goalkeeper of the Year award three times and was the starter in goal for Salt Lake’s MLS Cup win in 2009. He also holds the league’s record for shutouts with 126.

Javier Morales scored a brace in the victory, converting a first-half penalty before delivering a nice finish off the post to reestablish a two-goal advantage for Salt Lake.

Olmes Garcia scored the opener for Salt Lake, with an assist from Morales. Arturo Alvarez scored the lone Fire goal.

With the victory Salt Lake is up to 37 points, good for third in the Western Conference.
