Lagos reiterates zero tolerance for criminal activities

The Lagos State Government has reassured residents, especially those in the troubled communities of its ability to combat crimes in all parts of the state.

The state government said it still maintained its zero tolerance for criminal acts, while urging residents to remain calm as the Rapid Response Squad of the police in the state was on top of the current security challenges being faced by the locals.

They urged residents to always volunteer vital information to security agencies to enable them to promptly discharge their responsibilities.

“Information gathering is an integral part of security in the environment,” the state government said.

The Special Adviser to the Governor on Communities and Communication, Mr. Kehinde Bamigbetan, spoke on Friday during the monthly interactive session themed, “Securing our Communities.”

The session was organised in Ikorodu by the Ministry of Local Government and Community Affairs for Communities Development Committees, Neighbourhood Watch, Community Development Associations and other relevant stakeholders.

Bamigbetan said, “If proactive information is not provided to security agencies about a threat, the threat will eventually manifest.”

He stated that the government had mobilised enough equipment and resources – human and materials – to tackle criminality in all parts of the state.

Bamigbetan said, “The government is also exploring ways to foster a structured relationship with all informal security agencies with a vision to collectively combat crime in the state.

“The Lagos State Government has established a RRS Marine Police and is now working with the Naval Authority to ensure that the creeks are taken care of; monitoring and surveillance of these areas has increased and Lagos State is contributing its own quota to ensure that both the Marine Police and Naval Authority are able to respond to challenges facing our creeks.”

Earlier, the Sole Administrator, Ikorodu Local Government, Mr. Gbolahan Ogunleye, assured all security agencies in the Ikorodu Division of his administration’s support.

Ogunleye said, “Security is everybody’s business and we all need to work hard to ensure a crime free society.”

The representative of the Department of Security Service, Ikorodu Division, Mr. Funsho Adeleke, urged residents to always cooperate with the government on security issues “because people in the neighbourhood have vital information about those who reside in their various localities.”
