Clinton-Obama hug photo goes viral on Instagram

On the night Hillary Clinton made history by accepting the Democratic Party’s nomination for the presidency, the world wasn’t just watching at home passively as it had in past elections, but speaking out and reacting in real time over social media.

Data from Instagram, Twitter and other services also indicate which moments from the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia resonated with the American people.

For instance, the picture that Clinton shared of herself and President Obama embracing after he delivered an impassioned speech in support of her candidacy Wednesday night became the most-liked Instagram photo (146,000) from any candidate in this presidential race. It is captioned, “We love you back, President Obama.”

Previously, the most-liked photo was of Donald Trump eating McDonald’s French fries and a Big Mac and drinking a Diet Coke on a private jet from May. He was chowing down on the fast food to celebrate reaching 1,237 delegates — the figure needed to clinch the GOP’s nomination.

Just weeks before, the master brander garnered loads of attention — and 126,000 Instagram likes — by celebrating Cinco de Mayo with a similar picture featuring a taco bowl from Trump Tower Grill.
